On Wednesday, May 25, the Pennsylvania Department of Health announced the winners of the “Don’t Let a Tick Make You Sick Art Contest”. Emmalyn Matthews, a 3rd grader at Cambria County Christian School (CCCS), was selected as the 3rd place winner for her submission. Her artwork will be displayed in the PA Capitol East Wing Rotunda through June 8, 2022.
Emmalyn was surprised and excited she won the contest. She loves art and being creative. This contest was special to her because she was bitten by a tick carrying Lyme disease in 2021. Her hope is that posters like hers will continue to make others aware of the importance of checking for ticks.
The artwork was judged based upon the student creatively demonstrating where ticks can be found and techniques to prevent tick bites.
The mission of CCCS is to be a partner of the home and church, offering a Christ-centered traditional education for children in grades PreK through 12. CCCS is currently accepting and registering students for the 2022-2023 school year for all grades. Call the school for more information (814)749-7406. Financial aid is available.
